Our Learning Centres are open for Click & Collect, Study Spaces, and IT Support.

Here’s what you need to know:

We are, as always, available online to help:
To reserve laptops for collection:
  1. Search for "laptops" on MetSearch
  2. Select "reserve@cardiffmet"
  3. Choose your collection site
  4. Wait for the notification and then collect between 11 and 12, Mon-Fri

To request postal loans
  1. Find your books on Metsearch
  2. Choose delivery
  3. Put your address in the "comments"
  4. Wait for the post

L&IS Statement - July 2020

Library and Information Services are committed to supporting the safe reopening of our campuses and physical services. We know how important we are to the student experience and we’re working hard to be there for you every step of the way.

Online First 

We’ve always been committed to providing the best online resources and support for you. We’re proud of the extensive collections of ebooks and ejournals, IT software, online teaching and training, and virtual help and advice that we provide – and we’ve been doing all of that for some years now. Lockdown has given us the opportunity to revise and refine our online offering and we’re confident that what we provide will enhance your learning experience in the best way possible. 

Physical Services 

We know that you love our learning centres as much as we do – our fabulous learning/study spaces, tech, book collections etc. Things are going to look and feel a bit different at the start of this academic year: we’ll be striving to provide you with an excellent service as always (of course), albeit a slightly reduced one in line with health and safety guidance at this time. We’re going to start reopening our spaces in a phased way – no definite dates yet but we’ll announce them soon. 

Phase One – L&IS staff return to campus 

The first phase will see staff returning to campus and getting our Learning Centres ready to receive visitors. This will involve shifting a bit of furniture, opening some windows, and setting up/testing what we need for the later phases. We’ll need a bit of time behind closed doors but we’ll keep you updated – once we feel confident then we’ll move on to phase 2. 

Phase Two – Opening for Click and Collect 

During phase two you will be able to reserve and collect books. The pre-COVID library experience - where we used to expect you to search for the items, note the shelfmark, and then wander around trying to find them – will be replaced with something a bit simpler. You tell us what you want and we’ll do the wandering for you. We are working on the system for requests and notifications so we will have details for you soon. 

Phase Three – Spaces 

Phase three is about access to our IT and study spaces. We will open up the IT Suites and other socially distanced study spaces for you when it is safe to do so. We’ll have one-way systems and signage in place to help you navigate your way around. We will carry on with click and collect throughout this phase and we’ll keep you updated as we open up further spaces and services.
