There are two teams within IT Support Services that work from within the Learning Centre.
IT Helpdesk
In each of the Learning Centres we have an IT Helpdesk. Here you will find IT Helpdesk staff who are there to assist and support you throughout your time at Cardiff Met. It's at this desk where you can come with any ICT issues you may have and speak with one of the team.
Should you have problems ranging from connecting to Wi-Fi to advice on purchasing a new laptop - coem to visit us at the IT Helpdesk where we have staff on hand to help you. The desk is operational as long as the Learning Centre is open so you can even come to see us on the weekends and evenings during the academic term.
If you are experiencing problems with your laptop, PC or tablet we can look at this free of charge for you - although this does depend on how busy we are. From virus/malware and spyware infections to a complete rebuild of your laptop (providing you have the installation media), we can do this for you for no charge throughout your time at Cardiff Met. Please bear in mind that as this is a free service, it operates on best endeavours basis.
You can also borrow a laptop from Lapsafe self service or come to see us for a longer loan if required.
IT Adviser Team
Also based in the IT Suite at both campuses are the IT Adviser Team which provides 1st and 2nd line support to staff and students in the university. The Adviser team mainly support staff throughout the campus and visit staff where necessary.
In addition to providing 2nd line support to staff and students the Adviser Team also provide AV support throughout the University.
Within the Adviser team we have
School Liaisons too. Each school including Partnerships and Teaching Resources (AV), have a dedicated Adviser to liaise with in terms of IT resources, IT Projects, bespoke lab requirements and a general point of contact for all things IT. We also attend school meetings to hear from students with a view of improving their experience too.
Both teams are also involved in project, research and development work to ensure we provide the best service to staff and students in the university.
During your study you will encounter a range of problems with ICT. These can range from connecting your laptop or mobile device to the wireless network, printing problems, Microsoft Office queries, password and other access issues, advice on purchasing ICT equipment, faults with your own equipment that may need diagnosing, requesting a loan laptop or perhaps you would like a training session on a particular software product.
Whatever your need, you can visit the Support Desk and speak with one of the team who will be able and ready to help you. Don’t forget the IT Suite is open until 21:00 Monday to Thursday and until 19.00 on Friday. On weekends during term time, we are open 11.00 - 17.00 on Saturday and Sunday.
