​​​​​​​​​​Borrowing a Laptop

​​Cardiff Met IT department offer students the opportunity to loan a laptop free of charge. The laptops are available to borrow from the following locations: ​Llandaff - Technology Support Desk with the IT Suite ​on the first floor of Zone 3 in the Learning Centre Cyncoed - IT Support Desk in the IT Suite within the Learning Centre	​
​ ​You can check whether there are any laptops available via MetSearch - search for Loan Laptop. The results should list two available titles, each site has one set of laptops available.​​

​Pre-Installed Software

​Loan laptops are running Windows 10 (64 bit). They also have the following software installed: Microsoft Office 2016: Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project IBM SPSS v23	​
​Additional Cardiff Met Software may be available on request. You are also free to install your own software. You are also able to print from our loan laptops to Llandaff Learning Centre printers via the EDUROAM wifi network (see Flash Guides for details).

Reserving a Laptop

If there are not any laptops available you can reserve one. Laptop reservations will be kept for a maximum of two days.​ See our step by step guide to reserving a laptop for more details.​

Loan Details

Laptops are available to loan for a four week period.  Laptops cannot be renewed online and are required to be returned to the Technology Support Desk after the loan period so we can check the laptop over to ensure its in a healthy state and has been maintained in accordance with the loan conditions.  Assuming there is no reservation and the laptop has been maintained in the same condition as it was loaned to you, we will renew for anothe​r four weeks.

​Please be aware that when laptops are returned to us they are rebuilt for the next person that wishes to borrow one, this means that any data you have saved or programs installed are removed and are none recoverable.​​ ​ Late laptop returns are charged at £5 per day. Further charges may be applied if the laptop is damaged or missing, or peripherals are missing.​​

Summer Period Use

​Please note that during the summer months you will be required to get authorisation from your lecturer should you wish to borrow a laptop to study.  Why?​  These laptops are expensive items which we are trying to keep in the best condition possible for you to use to study. Their purpose is not for use at home for internet/social media use but for academic study.
