The Digital Essentials induction explores the core digital skills students need to study at Cardiff Met.
New Cardiff Met students should complete the induction to learn about the technologies and practices that will enable you to complete your studies remotely and in person.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Complete and pass the
Digital Essentials induction e-lesson.
2. Attend and complete the
Introduction to Teams and
Managing Documents at Cardiff Met training sessions that build upon the induction e-lesson.
Completing the induction
Step 1: Visit the Digital Skills Moodle module to complete the induction e-lesson. Sign in to Moodle with your Cardiff Met username and password. The e-lesson includes a short quiz assessment that you must pass.

Step 2: Sign-up for
one Introduction to Teams session
and one Managing Documents at Cardiff Met session. Use your Cardiff Met account to log in to MetHub to enrol on the sessions.

The sessions will be held through a Microsoft Teams meeting. A link (URL) to the meeting and
joining instructions will be sent after booking on a session.
Induction Details
Digital Essentials induction e-lesson
The
Digital Essentials induction e-lesson explores the essential IT systems you will encounter at Cardiff Met, such as email, Moodle, Microsoft Teams and our app store, AppsAnywhere. You will learn about using IT on campus, such as how to connect to the Wi-Fi and how to print.
The e-lesson explores the important steps you need to take to secure your Cardiff Met account and how to remain safe and secure when online.
The final section of the e-lesson is a short assessment quiz that needs to be passed to ensure you have understood the induction content.
An Introduction to Teams
This training session introduces the core functions of the Teams platform. You will learn the essentials you need to communicate through Teams, how to participate in Teams meetings and important concepts such as @mentions.
As well as being part of the induction, this session is part of
Collaborating with Microsoft Teams and Office 365 course that will fully develop your digital communication skills. It leads to a digital badge and certification: proof of your skills.
Managing Documents at Cardiff Met
This session explores how students and staff can use OneDrive and SharePoint Online to store their Cardiff Met documents securely and then access them from anywhere and on any device.
As well as being part of the induction, this session is part of
Managing Documents with OneDrive and SharePoint course that enables you to confidently manage and collaborate on documents. It leads to a digital badge and certification: proof of your skills.
Library induction
In addition to Digital Essentials, you should complete the brief
Library induction that will give you an overview of the learning resources and support available from our library team.
