Learn how to work effectively as a member of a digital team and make full use of the communication and collaboration tools in Microsoft Teams and Office 365. Successful completion of the full course leads to the Digital Collaboration with Microsoft Teams and Office 365 digital badge and certificate.

This course explores how Microsoft Teams and Office 365 can be used to improve communication and collaboration for your team - whether it is a project group, a student cohort or a group of colleagues.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course, however you might want to explore some of the Office 365 apps that are available (such as Teams, OneNote and Forms).

To access Office 365, visit portal.office.com and sign-in with your Cardiff Met Office 365 account: [staff number]@cardiffmet.ac.uk or [st student number]@outlook.cardiffmet.ac.uk.  E.g. sm12345@cardiffmet.ac.uk or st20191234@outlook.cardiffmet.ac.uk and your normal Cardiff Met password.

Course Structure

The course consists of three mandatory training sessions, an assessment (and associated briefing session) and optional sessions for those who teach using Teams.

The mandatory sessions are:

  • An Introduction to Teams
  • Teams for Learning and Working Remotely
  • Using Office 365 apps with Teams
  • Collaborating with Teams and Office 365 - assessment briefing
There are two optional sessions for those who with Teams.

To complete the course you should attend each mandatory session and complete a practical assessment. The assessment asks you to demonstrate your Teams and Office 365 knowledge and skills in realistic tasks and scenarios.

Estimated amount of learning time:

  • Teaching sessions: 4 - 5 hours
  • Practical assessment: 1 - 2 hours
For a total of between 5 - 7 hours.



Digital Badge Certification

The Digital Collaboration with Microsoft Teams and Office 365 badge

Successful completion of the full course leads to the Digital Collaboration with Microsoft Teams and Office 365 digital badge and certificate.

The digital badge is issued by Cardiff Metropolitan University through the Acclaim platform.

To complete the course and gain the digital badge, learners are required to complete the mandatory training sessions and pass an assessment. The assessment requires that learners use Teams and Office 365 to collaborate on a series of tasks.

Earners of the digital badge are able to work effectively as a member of a digital team and make full use of the communication and collaboration tools in Microsoft Teams and Office 365. They have proven that they are able to: use a range of Teams features to communicate with colleagues, utilise SharePoint to share and manage documents, choose the most appropriate tool for different types of communication & incorporate Office 365 services such as OneNote and Planner into their digital collaboration practices.

Specific Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course learners should be able to: 

  • Use the full range of Teams features to communicate with team members through text, video and audio meetings.
  • Create new Teams and add members to them in a range of ways.
  • Recognise the importance of digital communication conventions such as @ mentions, notifications and likes.
  • Utilise Teams and SharePoint Online to access, store and upload shared documents, securely.
  • Organise and search your Teams, conversations and documents.
  • Utilise Office 365 "group-based" apps that are available when using Teams: Planner (project management), Forms (data capture), Stream (video hosting) and OneNote (sharing notes).
