Business Objects

​This course explores how staff can access and create reports on Cardiff Met corporate data using the business intelligence tool, Business Objects. Successful completion of the course leads to the Business Objects Report Writer - Foundation digital badge and certificate.

The purpose of the course is for users to learn how to use the Business Objects Business Intelligence Launch Pad to access reports and the Web Intelligence reporting tool to create and customise reports. By the end of the course you will feel confident in the fundamentals of Business Objects and will be able to experiment further with the reporting capabilities.

Where and how to attend?

Sessions listed as Online (in the Campus column, above) will be held through a Microsoft Teams meeting. A link (URL) to the meeting and joining instructions will be sent after booking on a session. In person sessions will be held in a digital skills training room, see directions to our rooms.

Some sessions will be held in person and online, so ensure you choose your preferred booking type when signing-up. We recommend you attend these in person (if you can) but full support will be provided for those joining online.


Target Audience

​Cardiff Met staff who are (or will be) Business Objects users who would like to benefit from reporting on corporate data.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for the course, but you should have a familiarity with using Windows or macOS, Office and a web browser.

Course Structure

The course is comprised of three mandatory training sessions, that are each 1-hour long and an additional 2-3 hours of learning in the form a practical project assessment.

The first training session focuses primarily on accessing and working with reports in the Business Intelligence Launch Pad. The second session looks at creating and customising reports with the Web Intelligence application. The third session focuses on filtering, organising and summarising data.

The final component of the course is a practical project in which you will create Business Objects reports.

Estimated amount of learning time:

  • Teaching sessions: 3 hours
  • Practical project assessment: 2 - 3 hours

For a total of between 5 - 6 hours.


Digital Badge Certification

Business Objects Report Writer - Foundation badge

Successful completion of the course leads to the Business Objects Report Writer - Foundation digital badge and certificate.

The digital badge is issued by Cardiff Metropolitan University through the Credly platform.

To complete the course and gain the digital badge, learners are required to complete the live training and pass a practical project assessment. 

 

Earners of this certification are able to create reports using SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence suite. They are able to work with the Business Objects Launch pad to organise and manage documents. Within the Web Intelligence application, they are able to create, edit and format documents. They can query appropriate databases for the data they seek, apply additional filtering (quick filters and custom queries) and summarise data by presenting in tables.
