Library & Information Services are pleased to announce the IT training schedule for staff for the summer term. The schedule includes our second Microsoft Office Specialist course – Outlook, a revamped document management session (that incorporates SharePoint and OneDrive), Photoshop, Windows 10, Qualtrics and Business Objects.
Following a very successful pilot of the Excel Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualification, the summer schedule includes an opportunity to gain a globally recognised MOS certification in Outlook. Communicating Effectively with Outlook (with MOS pathway) explores underutilised Outlook tools, such as Flags and Tags, Quick Steps and Search Folders that can help you process your emails, meetings and tasks more efficiently.
In addition to the classroom teaching session, candidates will have access to a curated set of official Microsoft courseware; videos and practice software, to prepare themselves for the exam. Two MOS Workshop sessions are scheduled for delegates to study, practice and get expert help from the course team. Candidates that pass the MOS Outlook exam will have a comprehensive knowledge of Outlook and will be able to use it to communicate and collaborate, confidently and efficiently.
Managing your Documents with SharePoint and OneDrive is recommended for all staff who want to wield the power of SharePoint and the new OneDrive for Business platform to manage their documents effectively. The course will teach you how to: share files (internally and externally, when appropriate), collaborate in real-time on documents, use version history and a lot more.
Team Site Admin with SharePoint is targeted at staff who administer a SharePoint team site, large or small. The course will help you customise your site to suit your team's needs, by, for example: personalising your homepage, configuring document libraries and setting appropriate permissions.
The new courses are complemented by old favourites:
- Preparing Images with Photoshop - Level 1 covers a range of Photoshop tools – including crop, retouch, layers and selection – that can enhance your images for use in presentations, social media, web…or any purpose really! The Level 2 course builds upon its predecessor and covers topics such as layer styles, masks and adjustment layers to give you a solid foundation of Photoshop skills.
- Business Objects: Introduction will build your confidence in the Business Intelligence Launch Pad and Web Intelligence tools. Topics covered include: viewing and organising personal and corporate documents, formatting reports and organising and summarising data. The Intermediate course will extend your BO skills, enabling you to produce and share complex and well-presented documents.
- Designing Effective Surveys with Qualtrics is a comprehensive course that examines how the flexible Qualtrics survey platform can be used to create, distribute and report on surveys. The course incorporates: survey planning, multiple question types, logic, look and feel, distribution and reporting.
- Working with Windows 10 not only looks at new Windows 10 features, such as an improved Start menu, virtual desktops and Task View, but also explores associated software (such as OneDrive and Skype for Business) that makes up the Windows 10 experience at Cardiff Met.
