Autumn IT Training Schedule

​The IT training schedule for the new term includes a new session, Preparing Images with Adobe Photoshop, a range of Office 2013 courses and lots more.

Adobe Photoshop, the industry standard image editing software, is now available to Cardiff Met staff for free. To help staff get the most out of the product we have developed a new course, Preparing Images with Adobe Photoshop. The session introduces fundamental concepts, such as cropping and adjusting image settings, then progresses to examine how powerful selection tools and layers can be used to enhance your images. So, if you use images at all, whether it be in documents, presentations or publishing them to the web, this is the course for you.

The recently revamped Office 2013 training programme returns with three sessions on the schedule:

  •  Communicating Effectively with Outlook 2013 – looks at useful, but underutilised Outlook features, such as Flags and Tags, Quick Steps and Search Folders that can help you process your emails, meetings and tasks more efficiently.
  •  Foundation Excel 2013 – explores tools and techniques for organising, formatting and interpreting data. Topics include: cell styles, number formatting, formulae, functions, sorting, charts and Quick Analysis.
  •  Intermediate Excel 2013 – examines advanced tools for analysing and presenting data. Learn how to analyse your data quickly and easily with PivotTables, present information in a coherent way with Conditional Formatting and why absolute references are so important.

Training in our content and document management platform, Microsoft SharePoint, continues with four sessions available. Getting Started with SharePoint 2010 is aimed at all staff; it explains how SharePoint can be used to store, manage and collaborate on documents effectively.

Team Site Admin with SharePoint 2010 and Efficient Admin with SharePoint 2010 are targeted at SharePoint administrators. Whether they are administrators of small project sites, or entire unit sites, these two courses will develop the skills required to create effective collaborative spaces. Topics include: creating team sites, setting permissions, document libraries, lists and views. A follow-up workshop, Administering your Team Site, allows skills to be put into practice with expert help on-hand to answer any questions.

Designing Effective Surveys with Qualtrics takes an in-depth look at our new survey software, Qualtrics. The two-part course covers topics such as: question types, survey logic, planning your survey, Look & Feel, survey distribution and reporting tools.

Finally, Presenting with Prezi explores how Prezi can be used to create exciting and dynamic presentations. Prezi's "zoomable canvas" makes it possible to deliver content in innovative ways; learn how to fully exploit the software by attending this course.
